Daily Market Brief

Equity prices shed 0.1%, largely driven by declines in the telecommunication (-0.6%) and energy (-0.2%) sectors. NSE 10 and NSE 25 indices were relatively stable, while NSE 20 and the banking sector rose by 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively.

The day’s turnover grew by 92.1% from KES 223.64Bn to KES 429.51Bn, largely due to a 56.7% spike in volumes traded from 7.57Mn to 11.86Mn.

The banking sector produced the day’s top 3 movers, with KCB Group posting KES 103.85Mn in turnover, followed by I&M Group and Co-op Bank with KES 83.31Mn and KES 35.22Mn in turnover, respectively.

Foreign activity sank further to 15.6%, with a net foreign outflow of KES 103.85Mn. KCB Group drove the net foreign outflow, contributing KES 94.61Mn to the net foreign outflow.

Secondary bonds’ turnover dropped by 5.4% from KES 13.34Bn to KES 12.62Bn, with the number of deals dropping by 17.7% from 215 to 177. FXD1/2012/20yrs was the most traded paper, with a turnover of KES 3.31Bn.

CBK reopened two more papers for October, SDB1/2011/030yrs (14.4 years, 12.000% coupon) and FXD1/2026/030yrs (29.6-years, 12.500%coupon) targeting 50Bn from the market. The primary auction is scheduled for 14th October 2026.
