Daily Market Brief

Equity prices edged up by 0.5%, largely supported by gains in the banking (0.4%) and Telecommunication (0.4%) sectors. NSE 10 rose by 0.7% while NSE 20 and NSE 25 indices gained 0.8% and 0.5%, respectively.

The day’s turnover grew by 82.8% from KES 646.93Bn to KES 1,182.42Bn, largely due to a 41.9% jump in volumes traded from 17.19Mn to 24.39Mn.

KCB Group was the day’s top mover with a turnover of KES 261.03Mn. I&M Group and Equity Group followed with turnovers of KES 258.38Mn and KES 195.94Mn, respectively.

Foreign activity rose to 21.5%, with a net foreign inflow of KES 142.10Mn from a net foreign outflow of KES 10.82Mn. Equity Group and KCB Group were the primary drivers of net foreign inflows, contributing KES 173.99Mn and KES 24.00Mn, respectively.

Secondary bonds’ turnover dropped by 19.1% from KES 20.94Bn to KES 16.94Bn, as number of deals dropped from 290 to 276. FXD1/2026/30yrs, reopened in September, was the most traded paper, with a turnover of KES 3.91Bn.

CBK reopened two papers for October, FXD3/2019/015yrs (7.8 years, 12.3400% coupon) and FXD1/2019/020yrs (12.5 years, 12.8730%coupon), targeting 50Bn from the market. The primary auction is scheduled for Wednesday, 30th September 2026.
