Kenya Power Plc – Performance Snapshot

Kenya Power Price /Movements

Kenya Power Plc’s share price continues to record strong upticks, supported by its recent turnaround in financial performance and investors’ returns. As of 4 th June 2025, the electric distributor’s price hit KES 8.02 per share, a level last seen in early 2018 (over an 8-year high on daily average prices).

The surge is primarily driven by its turnaround strategy, increased electricity demand, rising investor confidence in the company’s financial performance, and the resumption of dividend payouts after a prolonged period of dormancy.

  • This all started in December 2023, when the counter recorded its first profits of KES 319 million after nearly a decade of losses. The second half of FY2024 performed even better to realize a full year (FY2024) earnings before tax (PBT) of KES 43.67 billion from a loss before tax of KES 4.43 billion reported in FY2023. Profits after tax jumped to KES 30.08Bn compared to a loss of KES 3.19Bn the year before (FY2023).
  • In the current financial year, which ended last week, June 30, 2025, the company is projected to have performed well, following the announcement of a KES 14.07 billion profit before tax for the first six months’ performance, ending December 2024. This represents a 2,514.3% jump compared to KES 0.54Bn recorded in the six months ending December 2023. Profits after tax were up 3,025.4% from KES 319 million to KES 9,970 million during the period.
  • Going by last year’s second-half performance, we expect the second half of FY2025 to perform even better and rally the price upwards. This is largely what is sustaining the counter’s price, which continues to record new highs.

We therefore recommend a BUY recommendation on KPLC’s share price at the current price of KES 7.84 per share as of 3rd June 2025, based on its first six months’ performance ending December 2024, with better projection in the second half of 2025 financial performance, which we fathom will sustain an upward rally in price. This is as we maintain a keen watch on the stock’s price and financial performance considering its erratic historical financial performances.
